FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – July 11, 2017 – Next week, members of the media are invited to capture a peek into a day-in-the-life of eight Broward County students, ages 16-18, who have been offered a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity – to gain real-world, paid work experience in their community, while also learning the importance of soft skills and how they relate to the workforce.
Through a more than $30,000 grant awarded by the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, these students are now working at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County and will be available to speak about the invaluable tools, soft skills and training they are receiving as part of CareerSource Broward’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).
The Summer Youth Employment Program is an annual program of CareerSource Broward, funded principally by Children's Services Council of Broward County, with additional funding also provided by local municipalities. Each year, nearly 800 youth throughout the county are selected to participate to work in clerical and assistant or aide roles with government agencies, libraries, community organizations, nonprofits and more. Students who apply to the SYEP and meet eligibility requirements are selected on a first-come, first-served basis.
