CareerSource Broward Launches Dynamic Online Internship Portal

February 2, 2017

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Feb. 2, 2017 – Studies have shown that high-quality internships not only give students the ability to use knowledge acquired in the classroom, but also helps develop valuable soft skills that are much needed to support increased productivity and innovation in the workforce. However, for many companies throughout Broward County, trying to find interested candidates for internship opportunities can become a real time-consuming challenge.

"Internships help build the foundation for individuals who want to explore career options and gain valuable experience that can potentially lead to full-time employment,” said Mason C. Jackson, President/CEO of CareerSource Broward. “It is our hope that our online portal will serve as a tool that the business community can take advantage of to make finding interns a whole lot easier.”

To address this issue, CareerSource Broward – in partnership with Broward College – has developed BrowardIntern.com to help link businesses with talented and highly qualified young people seeking internships. The website (www.browardintern.com) allows any company that has an internship opportunity based in Broward County to post their open positions at no cost and gives students the ability to upload their resumes, via the online portal, to be seen by employers and human resources representatives looking for interns.

“Broward College works closely with the local business community and the Broward Workshop to ensure that our programs take a strategic approach to strengthening the local economy and meeting the demands of our local workforce, ” said Broward College President J. David Armstrong, Jr. “The internship portal is yet another positive step CareerSource Broward, Broward College, and the Broward Workshop have taken to address the skills gap and provide our students with invaluable career training opportunities. Collaboration with our business community and initiatives like the portal are what sets our College apart and makes us a leading institution nationwide.”

Created using the latest technology and user-friendly features, the online portal offers helpful tips and educational resources for interns to gain real-world experience and stay ahead in today’s labor market. The website also includes a digital toolkit, developed by Broward College, to help guide companies interested in implementing their own internship program and developing workforce talent. "We have a very talented and qualified workforce in Broward County, which is helping us in our efforts to grow high-wage jobs at a pace which is among the best in the nation," said Bob Swindell, President and CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance. "We salute and thank CareerSource Broward, the Broward Workshop and Broward College for their work on this website and in helping make it easier for companies and interns to connect. We know this will help our companies grow and help our students succeed in their careers."

“The Broward Workshop identified the workforce skills gap as one of the largest challenges facing our member’s companies. Internships are an extremely effective method of preparing our students for rewarding careers. Thanks to the collaboration of CareerSource, Broward College and the business community, we now have a one-stop portal to match students with internship opportunities. Browardintern.com is a game changer for our county,” said James Donnelly, Chairman, Broward Workshop.
